Report on Town Hall meeting
This meeting was hosted by the Coalition After Property Tax Reform (CAPTR). For clarification, WRAFT and FOCA are founding members of CAPTR along with a number of urban ratepayer coalitions and large seniors' organizations. Some 250 individual members of FOCA, WRAFT and CAPTR attended the meeting.
MPPs for Liberal, PC and NDP parties outlined their positions on property tax reform and their views on the 2008 assessment. Terry Rees reviewed the particular issues affecting waterfront property owners and Bob Topp commented on the impact of the 2008 assessment on Toronto homeowners. This was followed by an extensive and lively question and answer period.
The frustration and anger of home and cottage owners was clearly evident from the exchanges that ensued. Penny Caldwell, editor of Cottage Life Magazine, was at the meeting and by clicking on the link below you can read her report on the meeting, written much better than we could.
